Spring Recess, All NYC Schools will be closed on April 22, 2024 to April 30, 2024
April 5, 2024 Dear Families: We are writing to inform you that on Monday, April 8, the New York City area will experience a partial solar eclipse beginning around 2:00 p.m. A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and earth. This casts a shadow that may make the sky dark for the eclipse's duration, as the sun will become approximately 90% covered in NYC during the peak coverage time, around 3:25 p.m. While this may overlap with school dismissal times, please know that there will be no changes to dismissal, and after-school programming will remain in effect. Please also be prepared for increased traffic throughout the area and consider using public transit instead of driving during this time. If you and your family are planning to view the eclipse, please make sure to do so safely by using proper, specialized eye protection. Regular sunglasses and other filters are not a safe replacement for solar eclipse glasses. Glasses are available at the Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, and New York Public Library while supplies last. It is recommended to call in advance to ensure supplies are available. Please take precautions, whether inside or out, as looking at the sun without protection can cause loss of the ability to see colors, loss of vision, or even permanent blindness. For more information on solar eclipse eye safety, please visit the New York City Department of Health guidance: nyc.gov/site/doh/about/press/pr2024/solar-eclipse-safety-precautions.page. Sincerely, New York City Public Schools
Teachers, we want to hear from you. Take your NYC School Survey today! NYCSchoolsurvey.org Deadline has been extended to April 19, 2024.

If you have not already done so, there is still time to complete the NYC School Survey.

The deadline has been extended to April 19th.

Dear Families, Every year, we ask all families and teachers and staff in grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 to take the NYC School Survey. The survey helps school administrators and pre-K program leaders understand what key members of their school or program community think about the learning environment and the quality of education children are receiving. The information captured by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of a school or program’s community about how to make the school or program a better place for learning. The 2024 NYC Public Schools Survey is open from February 12, 2024 through April 5, 2024. The family survey can be filled out online or by paper which has already been sent home with your child however, all are able to take it online. A direct link to each family’s survey is also available via each family’s NYCSA account. All families can take the survey online – in any of the nine NYCDOE supported languages – using their student’s nine-digit identification (OSIS) number. They can find the OSIS number on their child’s report card or their NYCSA account, www.schoolsaccount.nyc. Families completing the survey online should go to the NYC School Survey website www.nycschoolsurvey.org, enter the letter “f” (lowercase) followed by their student’s nine-digit OSIS number, and complete the survey (e.g f123456789). If families have more than one child in the same school or program, they should fill out one survey for each child in their family. If a family has children in two or more New York City schools or programs, the family should fill out a separate survey for each school and program. Families completing the paper survey should place the survey in the provided pre-paid envelope, seal it and can place it in a mailbox or return it to school to be mailed on your behalf. To ensure surveys can be scanned properly please use black ink, blue ink, or pencil for bubbling in responses, fill in the selected answer bubbles completely, do not include any stray marks on the page, do not write over the QR code and do not tear the paper or attempt to remove the staple. Please remember this is your school, this is your child, this is your voice. *For each family survey submitted, your child will be entered into a raffle to win a pair of movie tickets. There will be a winner on each grade. If you have any questions, please contact Parent Coordinator, Ms. Barr at mbarr7@schools.nyc.gov. NYS ELA Testing begins on Thursday, April 11, 2024 and runs through Friday, April 19, 2024.  Grade 8 will be testing on Thursday, April 11, 2024 and Friday, April 12, 2024  Grade 7 will be testing on Monday, April 15, 2024 and Tuesday, April 16, 2024  Grade 6 will be testing on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 and Thursday, April 18, 2024 While we encourage all students to be on time and present on their respective dates, we understand that illnesses and emergencies do occur. Therefore, make-up exams will be administered daily beginning on Monday, April 15, 2024 and end on Friday, April 19, 2024. To ensure we provide optimum testing conditions for all students we want to make you aware of the following:  The entire school will be following a testing schedule each day of the testing period. (4/11 – 4/19).  All testing will take place on the third floor to ensure a quiet and calm atmosphere that is free of distraction.  When your child IS testing, he or she will be eating during period 6 which begins at 12:00PM.  When your child IS NOT testing, they will remain in a designated classroom and remain there until it is time for lunch. They WILL NOT be moving during period change; rather their teachers will be meeting them in their designated classrooms. ALL Cell phones/electronic devices will be collected each day no matter if your child is testing or not testing. Cell phones/electronic devices will be collected during period one and returned during period eight. Admission to the test shall be denied to any student who is in possession of a cell phone or any other prohibited electronic device and refuses to relinquish it. If a device is discovered during testing, the student’s test will be invalidated and could potentially invalidate the entire class’ test, as well. All NYS Testing will be given on a Computer as we have opted for Computer Based Testing. If you would like to learn more about the format of the exam, please review the following link: NY Question Sampler (questarai.com). You will be able to select subject and grade level and you will be given 4 sample assessments. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Parent Coordinator at: mbarr7@schools.nyc.gov. We look forward to this opportunity for your child to academically shine.
